Don’t let this happen to your rare mobs.

I had no idea that this was even a thing. This would solve all the headaches with villagers. It’s been proposed that you should be able to use a lead on villagers within the community. Using a lead to move a digital humanoid around has questionable moral implications.

Using a lead to direct a beast of burden while a humanoid sits atop; has some precedent in the non digital world. Some may disagree with this activity but it is largely socially acceptable. A chicken isn’t the typical beast of burden but Minecraft isn’t an exactly hyper-realistic either.

What is this?

About two months ago I watching Zedaph over on the Hermitcraft server; and was introduced to zombie villager jockies. Apparently 5% of baby zombie spawns are a chicken jockey. 5% of any zombie spawn is a villager zombie. I thought this was cool but never thought I would experience it in game given the low odds. Given how long I’ve already played I’ve never seen it either.

Setting up a raid area

I had zombie villager in a boat that had started chasing me while caving. I put the villager in a boat to later move to the surface. I would bury the villager in an area that I wanted to have my raids spawn.

Villager shown is for story telling purposes and may not be identical to original villager

I trapped this villager in a boat before or around the time of the announcement that raid mechanics would be changed. My understanding is that the trigger will now be where the ominous potion is consumed and not based on a village centre.

The ominous potion is dropped by a raid captain. Drinking the potion triggers the ominous effect and the raid triggers shortly after if you don’t drink milk. Right now ominous effect is applied once the raid captain is killed and the raid starts once you enter a village.

I decided I would move the villager to the raid area even if this mechanic would soon be changed believing I’d complete a simple raid arena before the update… The update should be coming out in the next couple weeks… I haven’t started the arena.

Fail #1

If you don’t know this, zombie’s helmets take damage in sunlight.

I did know this. I even had extra helmets in my inventory to throw at the zombie if I couldn’t get them to their final destination and sheltered from the sun in time. But I panicked when the helmet broke and couldn’t get a new one from my inventory fast enough and that zombie perished.

Thunder

Through a couple nights and a thunder storm I fought mobs off and watched for another zombie villager to spawn that I could trap for my soon to be obsolete raid Arena.

When a chicken jockey ran at me at night I tried to crit it with my axe.

And there it was, one of the rarest mobs in minecraft. And the easiest way to transport a villager around.

Fail #2

With lightening come the potential for skeleton horses. I have no horses on my island so I wasn’t expecting any skeleton traps. But lo and behold; one spawned. Maybe a horse had spawned in and was converted; maybe they can spawn without a horse.

But here was a skeleton horse trap; and now I could have some horses on my island. I just needed to trip the trap and I could have 4 skeleton horses if none died in the battle.

With the villager zombie chicken jockey my priority I ran to grab emeralds and a lectern without triggering the skeleton horse trap first. When I returned it was gone. Slightly disappointed I continued pursuing the real prize.

Name-tag your chickens… (fail #3)

At least I was able to move the villager to their new home before the chicken disappeared. As the raid mechanic is changing with the next update I might be moving this villager again but oh well.

I chose mending for my villager. I had been avoiding this on Simple, and that was okay when I had more time to fish for books. There were multiple ancient cities under the main area of Simple. So I was able to get some leggings with mending; I had found some gold armour with mending and had found a few mending books fishing.

With a little less time, luck and writing this blog I decided I would get the mending trade.

It’s Summer!

This one is a bit shorter and a few days early. I have a cycling event on the 15th and will be away leading up to it. Family will be visiting and the weather has been nice. That means a little less time for gaming.
