A Minecraft Christmas

Twas the month before Christmas, when all through my head

No creativity was stirring, not even a glimpse;

The snow was pilling on the deck with care
The pressure building as St. Nicholas soon would be here;
The Creator was nestled all snug in his chair,
While visions of mega builds danced in his head;
With Pinterest now AI, and Instragram all adds,
Had all inspiration settled in for a long winter’s nap?

Pencil drawing of small house with snow covered roof

When out of my past there arose such a talent,
I sprang forth my pencil to see what I could conjure.
Away to the desk I flew like a flash,
Tore open the pages and drew up a draft.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But a miniature house, and within a 16 x 16 square,
Covered in snow, and a chimney of brick,
I knew in a moment it must be built quick.

Chimney made of coral, cobblestone and stone with smoke rising from it. 1x1 with spruce trap doors at the top and some glass panes as ice.

More rapid than eagles my inventory did fill,
And I whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
“Now, wool block! now, diorite! Now, calcite and quartz!
On, glass block! on, glass pane! on, snow block and layer!
To the top of the Island! To the top of it all!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When meet with an obstacle, I scaffold to the sky;
So up to the mountain-top the builder I flew,
With an inventory full of blocks, and pumpkin pie too.

A view of the cabin with a roof covered in snow. Snow is made up of diorite, snow blocks, calcite, wool and snow layers.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The breaking and placing of each little block.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Forth on the screen a house came with a bound.
It was dressed all in winter, from its head to its foot,
And the paths around it all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of firewood lay just around back,
And it looked like a snowdrift that had frozen a bit.
Its lights—how they twinkled! the interior how cozy!
its walls were of mushrooms, its door of a spruce!

Frosted tree with acacia and coral stump. Branches are diorite walls and iron bars. layers of white glass and white glass panes create a frosted branches effect

My droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of my chin was as white as the snow;
The stump of a tree I held tight in my hand,
And the blocks it encircled ahead formed a path;
Inside had a fire place with a little round belly

A black bed in the loft, like a bowlful of jelly.

The cabin was cozy, just right for a jolly old elf,

and I thought why don’t I move in here myself?

A wink of my eyes and a twist of my head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
I spoke not a word, but went straight to my work,
And modified a poem; then turned with a smirk,
And laying my fingers aside of my mouse,
And giving a prod, a blog post had rose;
I sprang to my socials, to my followers gave a whistle,
And away they all clicked like; as quick as a missile.
They heard me exclaim, as I logged out for the night,
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
